5 Ways to Keep Thanksgiving From Derailing Your Health and Fitness Goals
1. Do a Morning Workout
We don’t think you have to “earn” your food with a workout. However, if you only sit around all day and eat you will probably feel pretty sluggish. A morning workout can help you feel energized throughout the rest of the day.
2. Take Time to Enjoy your Food
Instead if racing to see how much food you can fit in your stomach, take time to enjoy each delicious bite. Thanksgiving food is rich, flavorful, and often tied to family memories. Be present and grateful for the delicious meal you get to enjoy.
3. Drink Plenty of Water
The food is the main show of the day, but don’t forget the importance of proper hydration. Water can help aid in digestion and staying adequately hydrated can help keep you control your portions a little more.
4. Focus on Quality Family Time
Good food is always better when it’s enjoyed with good people. The holidays are a great opportunity to slow down from the busyness of life and connect with friends and family. Instead of worrying about how this meal will affect your waistline, engage in quality conversation with your loved ones. These stories will stick in your memory far longer than the food will.
5. Relax!
It’s one day! One unhealthy meal won’t derail all of your progress. However, feeling guilty and giving up COULD derail your progress. The goal of healthy living is to enhance your enjoyment of life. At its core, Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful for the good things in your life. It is not a time to be overly ridged with your diet. Take this time to celebrate the family, friends, and good food around you and get back on track with healthy eating on Friday.
